"KCBS/San Francisco Celebrates 100 Years on June 11

All News KCBS-AM & FM is celebrating 100 years as the world's first broadcasting station on June 11, where it all began on the corner of First and San Fernando in San Jose, CA, in the Fairmont Plaza. It started in 1909, when Charles David Herrold aka "Doc" Herrold is credited with inventing radio broadcasting.

"Doc" Herrold operated Herrold's College of Wireless and Engineering at First and San Fernando in San Jose and in 1909 began his first broadcast transmission. Initially the station was only identified as "San Jose Calling" and then KQW and then and now KCBS.

On June 11, KCBS returns to San Jose as morning anchor Stan Bunger and midday anchor Rebecca Corral, anchor the news at noon from the very spot where the information age was born. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed will be on hand to commemorate the KCBS centennial. (06-08-09)"
